overview
Nick Hose has graced television screens for over a decade, sharing the Australian stories that matter to millions of viewers. From his early days as an Outback journalist reporting from some of the most remote parts of our vast country, to covering the global pandemic for the ABC’s flagship current affairs program 7:30, he has left no stone unturned in his pursuit of the truth and Australian story telling.

He has shared stories from the Great Western Desert with tribe elders from the Pintupi 9 to desperate farmers who lost everything in the Black Summer Bushfires, holding politicians to account and sitting down with celebrities and movie stars to ask the questions that matter.

In his early career a brief stint as an actor helped him overcome his anxiety around public speaking and performance. ‘I think at 22 I just wanted to be cast on Home and Away and then head to LA for pilot season’, Nick said. Thankfully he realised he was never going to win an Academy Award and switched to journalism, but not before appearing in a little known feature film called Not What I Expected, which did surprisingly well in Japan.

In New York he worked for NPR radio station WNYC on a weekday books and arts program where he met some of the biggest leaders in the arts, politics and journalism. He had the great privilege of interviewing Joan Rivers, Hillary Clinton, Jeff Koons and Yoko Ono (to name a few!). It was an experience that shaped his career and a moment in time he will never forget.

In 2019 an essay he wrote on his coverage of the devastating bushfires that ripped through Batlow, the small apple orchard town in the Riverina was published by Harpercollins titled Black Summer.

Nick’s career reached new heights when he began reporting on some of the biggest stories in Australian journalism. His coverage of corporate corruption within the powerful vape lobby and education sectors earned him both accolades and enemies. His reporting not only led to government action but also sparked nationwide conversations about corporate accountability.

In 2022 he made the switch to 7 News Sydney where he worked as a reporter for their flagship breakfast news program Sunrise, he also produced and presented stories for 7 News Sydney with Mark Ferguson covering floods, fires and crime.

In 2023 he took up the opportunity of a lifetime to anchor the nightly news for 7 Regional spanning five markets across New South Wales, ‘when I got the call to join the team of trusted journalists presenting the stories that matter, giving a voice to local communities I had to say yes’ Nick said. ‘It’s a huge privilege to be the face of 7 News and I get to work with not only my colleagues but friends, coming to work is a huge joy’, he said.

Today, Nick continues to be a voice for justice and truth. Whether writing articles, mentoring young journalists, or public speaking, he remains a vital force in the industry he loves. His legacy is one of courage, resilience, and an unyielding dedication to uncovering the stories that matter.
